Rewire exhibition - 2024
In the spring of 2021, I inherited a box of 35mm slide film and a worn-out slide projector. Upon dusting off the projector, I discovered hundreds of images, taken by people I had never met. The vivid colors, textures, and signs of age—scratches, marks, and degradation—captured my fascination. These images, with their fading imperfections, represented decades of memories that no longer belonged to those who had lived and created them. In my work, I aim to represent these "lost" slides and other discarded technologies, emphasizing their beauty while reflecting the fleeting and unreliable nature of memory. By modifying older technologies with modern microcontrollers, I create a system of control that links one thought to another. My goal is to celebrate the quirky, often overlooked qualities of forgotten technology, using it to create compelling compositions of space, light, and sound. The collection below documents my installation and it's individual artworks.
4 portable cassette players that I modified to be controlled by knobs below. The knobs are connected by long dangling audio cable. The knobs directly control the speed of the motor allowing you to slow down and speed up the music. The 4 cassettes playing at the same time create a fun interactive experience.
